Cómo responder "Tell me about yourself" en inglés (ejemplos para IT)
"So, tell me about yourself" abre casi todas las entrevistas en inglés.
1. Presente: quién eres hoy
"I'm a [role] with [X] years of experience in [area]. Currently, I work at [company], where I focus on [specialty]."
2. Pasado: uno o dos logros, con números
"In my current role, I [achievement], which [result with a number]."
Usa verbos fuertes: led, built, designed, automated, reduced, migrated. Evita I did o I made, que suenan genéricos.
3. Futuro: por qué este puesto
"Now I'm looking for [what you want], and that's why this role caught my attention."
Ejemplos para developer, soporte TI y redes
Software developer
"I'm a backend developer with five years of experience, mostly with Java and Spring. In my current role, I led the migration of our payments service to microservices, which cut deployment time from two hours to fifteen minutes. Now I'm looking for a team where I can work on large-scale systems, and that's why this role caught my attention."
Soporte TI / Help Desk
"I'm an IT support specialist with three years of experience in help desk and end-user support. Right now I handle around forty tickets a day, and I helped reduce our average resolution time by twenty percent. I'm looking to grow into a more technical role, working with international teams."
Redes y sistemas
"I'm a network and systems engineer with six years of experience managing Cisco networks and Linux servers. In my current job, I designed the network for our new data center and automated our backups with Ansible. Now I want to work in a cloud-focused environment, which is exactly what this position offers."
¿No tienes números exactos? Usa aproximaciones honestas: around, roughly, more than.
Errores comunes de los hispanohablantes
| ❌ Lo que decimos | ✅ Lo que se dice | Por qué |
|---|---|---|
| I have 5 years working as a developer. | I've been working as a developer for five years. | Traducción literal de "tengo 5 años trabajando". |
| I am developer. | I'm a developer. | En inglés las profesiones llevan artículo. |
| Actually I work at a bank. | Currently, I work at a bank. | Actually significa "en realidad", no "actualmente". |
| I'm working here since 2021. | I've been working here since 2021. | Con since se usa present perfect. |
I designed the caching layer."
- Usa conectores: So, a bit about me…, Before that…, One thing I'm proud of is…, And that's why…
