"Yesterday I finished the login refactor and opened a PR."
- Yesterday I worked on the payment API integration.
- I fixed the bug in the export feature. It's merged now.
- I spent most of the day investigating the memory leak.
- I reviewed Ana's PR and left a few comments.
- I've made some progress on the dashboard, but it's not done yet.
Si es lunes, cambia yesterday por on Friday o last week.
2. Qué vas a hacer hoy
Para planes usa I'm going to, I'll o I'm planning to:
"Today I'm going to write the unit tests and, if there's time, start on the next ticket."
- Today I'll continue with the migration scripts.
- I'm planning to finish the code review and deploy to staging.
- My focus today is the performance issue on the search page.
- I'll pick up the next ticket from the board.
3. Blockers
"No blockers for now."
- I'm blocked on the database access. I'm still waiting for the credentials.
- I'm blocked by the API changes from the platform team.
- I need someone to approve my PR before I can deploy.
- Not a blocker yet, but I might need help with the Terraform module.
Cómo dar el estado de una tarea
Cuando alguien pregunta "How's it going with…?" o "What's the status of…?", estas tres expresiones cubren casi todo:
- On track: va según lo planeado. The release is on track for Thursday.
- At risk: podría atrasarse. The migration is at risk because we found more data issues than expected.
- Delayed / behind schedule: ya está atrasada. The integration is delayed by two days. We're waiting on the vendor.
Otras frases útiles para matizar:
- It's almost done. I just need to fix a couple of tests.
- It's taking longer than expected.
- It's done on my side. It's ready for QA.
- It's in review. / It's ready to merge.
- I had to put it on hold to work on a production issue.
- Could someone help me with the CI pipeline? It keeps failing on the build step.
- Carlos, do you have five minutes after the call? I have a question about the auth service.
- Can we take this offline? (hablarlo fuera de la daily)
- Let's discuss it after the standup.
- I'll sync with the backend team and update the ticket.
- Who's the right person to ask about the VPN setup?
- Sorry, could you repeat the last part?
- Just to confirm, you need the endpoint ready by tomorrow, right?
Dar estimaciones sin comprometerte de más
Cuando te preguntan "When do you think it'll be ready?", no tienes que dar una fecha exacta. Lo profesional es estimar con contexto:
- I think I can have it ready by end of day tomorrow.
- It should take about two days, assuming no surprises.
- I'd say two or three days, but I'll know better after I look at the legacy code.
- Hard to say right now. Let me investigate and get back to you this afternoon.
- Realistically, it won't be ready before Friday.
Abreviaturas que vas a escuchar: EOD (end of day), EOW (end of week), ETA (estimated time of arrival, o sea, cuándo estará listo).
Errores comunes en la daily
| ❌ Lo que decimos | ✅ Lo que se dice | Por qué |
|---|---|---|
| Actually I'm working on the API. | Currently, I'm working on the API. | Actually significa "en realidad", no "actualmente". |
| I'm blocked with the deploy. | I'm blocked on the deploy. | Se dice blocked on (la tarea) o blocked by (la causa). |
| Yesterday I have worked on the tests. | Yesterday I worked on the tests. |
| I finished yesterday the tests. | I finished the tests yesterday. |
| I'm waiting the credentials. | I'm waiting for the credentials. | Wait necesita for antes del objeto. |
| I made a review of the PR. | I reviewed the PR.
Developer
"Yesterday I finished the endpoint for user notifications and opened a PR. Today I'm going to address the review comments and start on the email templates. One thing: I'm blocked on the staging environment because the database is down. Could someone from DevOps take a look after the call?"
QA
"Yesterday I tested the new checkout flow and logged three bugs. Two of them are minor, but one is critical: the payment fails with some card types. Today I'll retest the fixes from the sprint and update the regression suite. No blockers, but the release is at risk if the payment bug isn't fixed by Wednesday."
Soporte TI
"Yesterday I closed twelve tickets, mostly password resets and VPN issues. I escalated one ticket to the network team because it looks like a firewall problem. Today I'm going to work on the onboarding for the three new hires. No blockers for now."
